Title

Congratulations to Officer Jordan Tillery, recipient of the City of Coral Gables “Officer of the Month,” for March 2024.

Body

On March 17, 2024, at 0737 hours, Officer Jordan Tillery (11246) was canvassing the area for a subject who was seen by security taking a mountain bicycle from 888 Ponce De Leon Blvd (24- 1965), when he observed a male wearing a black shirt with cut off sleeves and blue shorts riding a bike westbound on the 200-block of University Dr. Officer Tillery along with Officer Alex Rodriguez, who was behind him, stopped and detained the subject until he could be identified as the same individual seen on surveillance camera. During a pat down for weapons, the subject was found in possession of burglary tools consistent with what is used to cut bike locks along with drug paraphernalia. The subject was subsequently arrested.

The night before, there was a sexual voyeurism incident involving a juvenile victim, which took place in close proximity to the bike theft incident. CGPD Detectives were able to link the subject to both incidents. The same subject was positively identified and arrested with the additional charges of trespassing and voyeurism. (24-1964)

Officer Tillery canvassed his zone for 10 minutes when he located the subject about a mile and a half away from the original incident location. He voluntarily responded to a call of a suspicious person to assist his fellow officer, which is his normal practice when he is on duty. He then used his knowledge and training to locate a criminal subject and he took immediate action by detaining and searching the subject. The offender, who had an extensive criminal past, would have continued to victimize other vulnerable individuals if it were not for Officer Tillery's efforts.
