Title

Resolution granting a one-day permit to the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana to sell alcoholic beverages on Friday, April 4, 2008, from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight at Ponce Circle Park as the finale of the Latin Jazz Concert Series, pursuant to Florida Department of Professional Regulation requirements and City Special Event Committee provisions.

Body

It is recommended that the Kiwanis of Little Havana be permitted to sell alcoholic beverages from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight on Friday, April 4, 2008, at Ponce Circle Park, as a part of the Latin Jazz Concert Series, pursuant to requirements set forth by the State of Florida Department of Professional Regulation and City Special Event Committee provisions.

Brief History

For eight years the Kiwanis of Little Havana has utilized Miracle Mile and Ponce de Leon Boulevard as part of Carnaval Miami.  The Club is requesting use of Ponce Circle Park on “Gallery Friday” evening from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight for a Latin Jazz concert during the first weekend in April.

Additional police officers and on-duty custodial staff will be retained, as in the past, by the Kiwanis of Little Havana to control the crowd and littler problem.  Past results of crowd control and litter have been very successful.  In addition, the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana will continue their efforts to reduce the music volume levels.

The City’s Special Events Committee has met and is recommending approval of the concert series event.
