Body

The city received a proposal to exhibit the sculpture “Rey del Tequila” by artist Leonora Carrington on private property from the property owners of The Plaza at 2901 Ponce de Leon.

The request is for approval of installation on property that is in a prominent, accessible, and frequently trafficked area on the South Plaza, along the east side of Ponce de Leon, across from Catalonia Ave.

The artwork is a cast-bronze sculpture representative of similar works by the artist and is a smaller (ten and a half foot) version of the thirty-foot-tall sculpture in Jalisco, Mexico.

Funding for the artwork, exhibition, installation, permits, related fees, and de-installation are provided through private funds of the requestor.

The Arts Advisory Panel voted unanimously (9-0) to recommend approval to the Cultural Development Board at their meeting on May 3, 2023.

The Cultural Development Board voted (5-0) to recommend approval to the City Commission at their meeting on May 16, 2023.
