Title

Presentation of the Police Department's Citizen Recognition Award to volunteers Lilia Marcos and Ricardo Valdes-Flores.

Body

Lilia Marcos and Ricardo Valdes-Flores, our senior volunteers, have selflessly given countless hours to assist crime victims in the City of Coral Gables. Retired after 20 years in the insurance business, Mrs. Marcos joined us in May 2007, working an average of 40 hours a month.  Mr. Valdes-Flores retired after 35 years in the banking business and started volunteering for the Victim /Witness Unit in 2003. In 2006, he was honored with a presidential recognition for his countless hours of service to the Coral Gables Police Department.

Since then, Lilia and Ricardo have been in charge of the Unit's clerical work, filing, and opening and logging cases, and contacting victims via mail. Their professionalism and commitment has enabled this Unit to assist over 500 victims every year. By informing victims of their rights and providing the needed information for their recovery, they have provided an invaluable service to this community and the Coral Gable Police Department. Ricardo and Lilia are a shining example that after retirement, knowledge, experience, and talents can be shared, and are valuable assets to the community.
