Landscape Beautification Advisory Board Meeting of May 7, 2009

TRAFFIC CIRCLE - CARDENA & PALERMO: Dan Keys reported that he has heard of no new developments on this project. Maricris Longo requested that the palms planted in the circle at Hernando and Valencia be replaced as they are dying.
ARBOR DAY CELEBRATION: Everything is in place for the Arbor Day celebration to follow this meeting. The speaker will be Carl E. Lewis, PhD, Director of Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden, the Coral Gables Garden Club will be providing cookies and the City of Coral Gables will be providing additional refreshments. Mr. Machado at Ponce de Leon Middle School is bringing the Young Environmentalist’s Service Club and there will be 3 classes of children from Sunset Elementary. Mayor Slesnick will be presenting the City of Coral Gables Arbor Day Proclamation and the recipients of the 2009 Beautification Awards have been invited to receive their awards. The Public Service Department has installed three Royal Poinciana trees that will be ceremonially planted.
BOARD ITEM/CITY COMMISSION UPDATE: No new items.
CITY PROJECTS UPDATE: Dan Keys informed the board that the City is in the process of creating the budget for fiscal year 2009-2010 and will be submitting 0%, 3%, 5%, and 10% cut budgets.
The next meeting will be June 4, 2009 at 9:15 a.m. at the Youth Center.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:47 a.m.
