Presentation of 20 year service pin to Dan Keys, Public Service Department

In June 1982, Dan accepted a Laborer's I position with the City Beautiful. He was quickly promoted to the new position of City Horticulturist in September 1982. He maintained that position until March 1988 when he accepted additional responsibilities as Parks Division Superintendent. Career change decisions surfaced and Dan resigned in February 1989, taking a position as Parks Superintendent with the City of Miami Beach.
In January 1995, Dan returned to Coral Gables as the Public Service Director, taking on the stewardship of the City's urban forest and landscaped parks and parkways, as well as that of the Solid Waste Collection system. He maintains that position to this day.
Dan demonstrates excellent professionalism and responds well to all inquiries and data necessary to accomplish a superb job. He is able to respond immediately to current issues and problems and constantly pursues improvement without direction. Dan projects a tactful, helpful and courteous approach to residents, workers and the commission. In addition, he is very self-reliant, adaptable and resourceful in meeting multiple job demands while stimulating others to think and to work.
Initiative has proven to be one of Dan's strongest areas of performance. This is exhibited in the constant improvement he encourages in the function of his department. Many improvements have taken place over the years in the appearance of the areas within his realm of responsibility. Coral Gables' selection as Tree City USA for nearly two dozen years is a lasting credit to Dan Keys.
Dan has always managed well in difficult budget environments and has encouraged productivity and quality improvements at every opportunity. He shows a very strong overall performance as a Director. The City recognizes and appreciates Dan for his, dedication and passion for his work throughout the years.
