A Resolution approving revision of Cultural Grant categories and requests.

The Cultural Development Board meets annually to assess the Cultural Grant guidelines, application, and process from the previous year with the purpose of recommending updates that are then incorporated into the next grant cycle. This year, the Cultural Development Board thoroughly reviewed the structure of the grant categories and agreed on the following recommendations.
The Coral Gables Based Cultural Organizations (CGB) are major anchoring cultural institutions based in Coral Gables with annual organizational budgets over $500,000 that contribute to the local, regional, national and international visibility for the City. Previously, eligible institutions could request up to $15,000 in this category toward operational expenses. In the past two years, the maximum request was dropped to $10,000 to match the Cultural Series category. The Board feels that as significant anchors in the City’s cultural community, this should return to the $15,000 maximum request.
The Cultural Series, Festivals, & Special Events (CS) category draws the majority of applicants. The Cultural Development Board recommends modifying the category title to: Cultural Programs, updating the defined availability to cultural groups that produce series and events with cultural significance taking place in Coral Gables that have a reputation for excellence as well as a significant impact on the reputation of the City as a dynamic cultural community, and maintaining the maximum request of $10,000.
The Community (C) category was put in place to support nonprofit organizations presenting small community-based cultural programs that generally occur for one day and are free and open to the public. The Board has found that applicant events within this category are better suited for the Cultural Programs category or have leaned toward a broader scope than intended for use of cultural grant funds.
