Title

An Ordinance of the City Commission of Coral Gables, Florida, amending Chapter 54, “Solid Waste,” Section 54-146, to require all homes with two street frontages along Red Road, Bird Road, Coral Way, Miller Road, Kendall Drive, Sunset Drive and Old Cutler Road to locate trash pits on the property’s other street frontage.

Body

The City of Coral Gables wishes to diminish the number of trash pits along major thoroughfares such as Red Road, Bird Road, Coral Way, Miller Road, Kendall Drive, Sunset Drive and Old Cutler Road. This will reduce the visual clutter, deter illegal dumping activities, provide a safer environment to City staff, reduce traffic congestion and enhance the City’s overall aesthetics.

The properties along these corridors with two street frontages, shall relocate their trash pit to the property’s other street frontage.  In addition, any new request for trash pits, for homes with this same condition, will only be approved if located on their side street’s frontage.

Once the ordinance is passed, there shall be a ninety (90) day educational period. City staff will use an array of informational materials to inform residents of the Code amendment. City staff will work with those residents that might need assistance with the relocation of their trash pits. Upon expiration of the educational period, residents not in compliance with the amended changes, may be fined $100, per occurrence.
