Title
Resolution authorizing expenditures in the amount of $26,000.00 from the Coral Gables Police State Forfeited Asset Fund (FAF) monies to provide for the purchase of a "Live Scan" electronic fingerprinting system.
Body
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) recently informed the City and the Police Department that it would be significantly increasing their fees for processing job applicant fingerprints that are submitted on the traditional ten print inked fingerprint cards, as opposed to a much lower fee for the preferred electronic submission of applicant and employee fingerprints for the required criminal background checks and database storage of certain employees in certain positions. Additionally, FDLE now requires that all sworn law enforcement officers employed in the State of Florida have an electronic version of their fingerprints on file in the FDLE database. The acquisition of the "Live Scan" electronic fingerprint system would allow the Police Department to meet the FDLE requirements and avoid the need to meet increased costs in the processing of job applicants. The acquisition of this equipment would qualify as a permissible purchase from State Asset Forfeiture Funds as it is additional equipment this is not a normal operating expense.
