Department Head Recommendation

Brief History
The redevelopment of Ponce de Leon Boulevard with a raised landscape median has been in the City's Capital Improvements Program for the past five years.  In 2007, a raised landscape median for a seven block segment was completed under the Ponce de Leon Boulevard Phase I Improvement Project.  In 2011, the Phase II segment of the Ponce de Leon Boulevard Median Improvement was completed which included construction of roadway capacity improvements and a raised median from Alcazar Avenue to Salamanca Avenue.

Phase III under this JPA will include design and construction of a roadway improvement project along Ponce de Leon Boulevard from Salamanca Avenue to Antiquera Avenue with raised landscaped medians along the entire corridor, and conversion of angle parking to parallel parking.

The Road Impact Fee funds of $1,490,000 will provide the funding to move forward with the Phase III segment of the Ponce de Leon Boulevard Median Improvement Project.

The project will improve roadway capacity in the area, promote vehicular and pedestrian safety, enhance aesthetics and the environment with new landscaping, and improve efficiency and safety of the Coral Gables Trolley with the construction of curb bulb-outs at trolley stops.
