In 1966, the Kiwanis Club of Coral Gables created a program to honor the Coral Gables Police Officer of the Month and the Coral Gables Police Officer of the Year.  Nominations from members and employees are received by the Coral Gables Police Department Awards Selection Committee (ASC).  The Committee then meets on a monthly basis to discuss the nominations and select the Officer of the Month.  The Officer of the Month and a guest are then invited to a Kiwanis Club of Coral Gables Luncheon, and presented with a plaque and a check from the Kiwanis Club of Coral Gables, gift certificates from various Coral Gables businesses, and eight (8) hours of annual leave from the City of Coral Gables.
