Congratulations to Emergency Dispatch Operator Monica Dinescu, recipient of the City of Coral Gables “Operator of the Quarter,” for the third quarter of 2024.

On the night of September 24th, 2024, Emergency Dispatcher Monika Dinescu was assigned to work Police Dispatch on the Afternoon Shift. During this time a call was transferred by the Miami Police Department regarding a stolen vehicle that was being tracked to a location in our city. The vehicle in question, was a medical van filled with medical supplies taken from Mercy Hospital. A call for service was created (case # 2024-6322) and quickly routed to dispatch. ED Monika Dinescu promptly started marked units towards the last known location of the stolen vehicle. Shortly after the call was dispatched, a member of the Crime Suppression Team raised dispatch to have her re-assign the call to them and requested that all marked units to stay out of the area.
Not long after CST’s arrival, a team member advised of a subject fleeing east bound from the last known location. ED Monika Dinescu reacted quickly, sending 3-15’s for backup and maintaining the air for the lead unit. As the event evolved it became even more chaotic due to the subject’s rash actions. In the process of attempting to elude capture, the subject struck a building, rammed responder’s vehicles, before finally crashing into an unsuspecting motorist. ED Monika Dinescu provided rapid updates in real time, along with notating the many changes into the CAD system. Throughout the event, ED Monika Dinescu worked independently and maintained a calm and professional demeanor.
Emergency Dispatcher Monika Dinescu is a standout employee amongst her peers. She is highly driven and does more than what is required of her.
