Congratulations to Sergeant Gordon Dickinson, recipient of the City of Coral Gables “Officer of the Month Award,” for the month of November 2022.

On November 26, 2022, at 0958 hours, CGPD Officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Mercado Av reference a suspicious vehicle with 4 males wearing covid masks, who then began walking on foot, looking at homes. Sgt. Gordon Dickinson was the first to arrive and located the vehicle, a black BMW X3, which was later discovered to have a male slumped down, attempting to avoid detection. Sgt. Dickinson found a second offender walking on the 1400 block of Mercado Av. Noticing there was something wrong with the offender’s demeanor and behavior, Sgt. Dickinson quickly notified dispatch to have units canvass the area for the other subjects at large. All four offenders were located and detained to conduct a further investigation.
Sgt. Dickinson took lead on the call and quickly notified the on-call property crimes detective of what he had. He then directed officers to keep each of the subjects separated, which was later essential to the investigation because post Miranda, the offenders could not develop a story as to why they were there, and they admitted to looking for a home to break into. Then, after further investigation, two of the offenders confessed to attempting to break into the home.
Sgt. Dickinson remained on scene for the duration of the investigation and made contact with the original complainant and assisted officers on the loitering and prowling arrests. He also made contact with the owner of 1432 Mendavia Av, who was initially not home, and he requested to check the exterior of her home and discovered several windows and doors were damaged with a pry tool.
Once again, Sgt. Gordon Dickinson, was able to arrive first on scene and quickly realized that something was not right and notify CGPD dispatch to have officers located the other offenders, who were immediately apprehended. Then he followed up ...
