[There being a quorum present, the meeting was called to order at 6:09 p.m.
Item No. 1 - Opening Remarks: Chief Hammerschmidt introduced Lieutenant Cordell Atherley from the Department's Special Investigative Services section.
Item No. 2 - Selection of Chairperson and Vice Chair: Mr. Carmichael was nominated for Chairperson by Mr. Saks, the nomination was seconded by Ms. Cook, and carried unanimously. Mr. Saks was nominated for Vice Chair by Mr. Stieglitz, seconded by Mr. Hornik, and carried unanimously.
Item No. 3 - Approval of Minutes: The minutes of the April 3, 2007 meeting were approved upon motion by Mr. Stieglitz, seconded by Mr. Saks, and carried unanimously.
Item No. 4 - Property Tax Relief Impact: Discussion relative the potential impact of the recent property tax relief legislation.
Item No. 5 - Cameras in the Downtown area: Discussion relative to installing security cameras in the downtown area as a safety precaution.
Item No. 6 - Ride-Along Program: Discussion relative to the Department's ride-along program.
Item No. 7 - Construction Areas: Discussion relative to the construction areas around Almeria Avenue, Sevilla Avenue, and Palermo Street, and their related traffic issues.
Item No. 8 - Automatic Electronic Defibrillators: Discussion relative to new requirements for buildings to be equipped with Automatic Electronic Defibrillators.
Item No. 9 - Fire Department: Fire Chief Cook discussed the budget impact of the proposed property tax relief legislation.
Item No. 10 - Police Department: Chief Hammerschmidt discussed the upcoming multi-agency training scenario to take place at the University of Miami.
Item No. 11 - Next meeting: The next meeting of the Public Safety Committee was scheduled for September 4, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. at the Coral Gables War Memorial Youth Center.
