ACTION/RECOMMENDATION

That Sergeant Hector Diaz is recognized as the Officer of the Month for June 2021 for his keen observations and quick actions related to case 21-003348

BACKGROUND

On 06/17/21 around 5:32 pm, Sgt. Hector Diaz was on his bicycle, patrolling the area of the 1700 block of County Club Prado.  Sgt. Hector Diaz observed a male subject (later identified as the offender, Erielsy Rodriguez Nieto) walking down the 1700 block of Country Club Prado holding a box over his head.  Sgt. Diaz made eye contact as he passed him and went back around to talk to him. Sgt. Diaz stopped in front of the subject and asked him what he was doing with the box. The male subject said that it was his box, but then dropped the box on the ground and took off running.  Sgt. Diaz told him to stop several times as he went after him. Sgt. Diaz said the male subject got tired of running and stopped on the 1600 block of Red Rd, where he detained him.

The victim (Mr. Leroy Garcia Rayneri) received a call from his friend (Mr. Juan M. Hernandez/Witness).   The witness stated he saw a white male in a red t-shirt and black cap taking a package from the front porch of 1719 Red Rd.  The victim responded back to his home and was searching the neighborhood for the subject, when he saw the subject matching the description being detained by CGPD.  The box the offender dropped had the address and name of the victim.  The victim provided video surveillance which showed the offender taking the package. During the burglary, the victim's wife was home, but didn't see the offender.

The offender was arrested for Burglary to Occupied dwelling (Package Theft).

SYNOPSIS/CONCLUSION

Based on Sergeant Diaz's police actions, I am recommending that he be recognized for his efforts via the "Officer of the Month" award for June 2021.
