Congratulations to Firefighter Wilfredo Gonzalez, recipient of the City of Coral Gables “Firefighter of the Month Award,” for the month of August 2026.

Firefighter Gonzalez was having dinner on May 20th at Square Grouper in Islamorada and a man nearby began to choke on a piece of steak. Firefighter Gonzalez was able to perform the Heimlich maneuver and save the man from choking to death.

 

Wilfredo’s professionalism, dedication and selfless gesture make him truly deserving.

 

Due to his outstanding work ethic and dedication to the department, Firefighter Wilfredo Gonzalez is nominated Firefighter of the month for the month of August.
