Javier Romero is new to the department, yet he has already demonstrated a remarkable level of initiative,

professionalism, and commitment to service that distinguishes him as an outstanding member of the

team. From the moment he joined the department, he has approached his role with the mindset of a selfstarter--

someone who does not wait to be asked, but instead looks for ways to improve operations,

support colleagues, and enhance the quality of our work.

One example of this initiative is the video series he launched for Instagram titled “Did You Know?” The

series highlights various programs and services the city provides, presenting them in a fun and

educational format that helps residents better understand the work happening behind the scenes. By

proactively developing this content, Javier has contributed to telling the city’s story in a creative and

accessible way that promotes civic awareness and pride in our services.

He has also taken the initiative in areas that support the day-to-day functioning of our workplace.

Recognizing that Commission meetings and other quasi-judicial boards were transitioning to the

Community Meeting Room (CMR), he independently organized and cleaned the control room to ensure it

is ready for frequent use. His attention to these operational details helps create a professional and

efficient environment for staff.

In addition, Javier has consistently stepped forward to solve problems as they arise. When he noticed

issues with the television connectivity in the conference room and , a room used by many for Zoom and

Team meetings he took it upon himself to troubleshoot and fix it. He also addressed a potential safety

concern by improving a multi-connection extension setup to prevent tripping hazards. These actions

reflect not only initiative, but also a strong sense of responsibility for the workplace and the people in it.

Javier’s creativity and quick thinking were also evident during the first Commission meeting held at the

CMR. Recognizing the importance of maintaining a dignified and ceremonial atmosphere for the

proceedings, he quickly devised a temporary solution to ensure the CMR still presented a polished and

professional appearance before curtains arrive.

Initiative is one of the most valuable qualities an employee can demonstrate. It reflects ownership, pride

in one’s work, and a willingness to go beyond basic responsibilities to improve the organization. Javier

embodies these qualities. Though he is new to the office, he has already made a meaningful impact

through his proactive approach, creative ideas, and readiness to help wherever needed.

For these reasons, I am pleased to nominate Javier Romero for Part-Time Employee of the Quarter in

recognition of his initiative, dedication, and positive contributions to the team.
