HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE DETERMINATION:

Historical Significance Determination of 649 Palmarito Court, legally described as Lots 18 and 19, Block 139, Coral Gables Country Club Section Part Six, according to the Plat thereof, as recorded in Plat Book 20, at Page 1, of the Public Records of Miami-Dade County, Florida.

 

A motion was made and seconded that staff proceed to prepare a Historical Designation Report and present it to the board within sixty (60) days for them to review and make a determination of whether the property merits historic designation.

                     The motion passed (Ayes:9; Nays: 0).

 

SPECIAL CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS:

CASE FILE COA (SP) 2020-007: An application for the issuance of a Special Certificate of Appropriateness for the property at 603 Minorca Avenue, a Local Historic Landmark, legally described as Lots 14 and 15, Block 18, Coral Gables Section “B,” according to the Plat thereof, as recorded in Plat Book 5, at Page 111 of the Public Records of Miami-Dade County, Florida. The application requests design approval for the relocation of the residence, an addition, and sitework.

 

A motion was made and seconded to deny the application for moving the structure.

                     The motion passed (Ayes:7; Nays: 2).

 

The homeowner withdrew the second part of the COA(SP)2020-007 from the board’s consideration for the addition and sitework.

 

CASE FILE COA (SP) 2020-013: An application for the issuance of a Special Certificate of Appropriateness, in accordance with section 3-1104(D)(2) of the City of Coral Gables Zoning Code, for the public right-of-way adjacent to 244, 250, 272, and 290 Valencia Avenue and 247 and 297 Almeria Avenue, legally described the west 265 feet of alley, Block 10, Coral Gables Crafts Section, according to the Plat thereof, as recorded in Plat Book 10, at Page 40, of the Public Records of Miami-Dade County, Florida.  The applicant is requesting a recommendation of approval for an amendment to the City Plan for the vacation of the alley. 

 

A motion was made and seconded to approve the request for a recommendation of approval to the City Commission based on the City Staff Report that they issue the Certificate of Appropriateness. 

                     The motion passed (Ayes:8; Nays: 1).

 

STANDARD CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS: 

CASE FILE COA (ST) 2018-154 Revised: An application for a revision to a previously issued Standard Certificate of Appropriateness for the building located within the University of Miami Main Campus Frost School of Music referred to as the Arnold Volpe Music Building located at 5489 San Amaro Drive, legally described as All of the “Arnold Volpe Music Building,” as now existing, laid out and in use, the same being a portion of Tract 1 of Amended Plat Portion of Main Campus University of Miami, according to the Plat thereof, as recorded in Plat Book 46 at Page 81 of the Public Records of Dade County (now Miami-Dade County), Florida. The application requested design approval for window and door replacement. The revision requests design approval for the as-built windows and doors.

 

A motion was made and seconded to defer this item.

                     The motion passed (Ayes:8; Nays: 0).  Ms. Spain had recused herself from voting on this item.

 

ITEMS FROM THE SECRETARY:

                     Update on the “S” tile versus the true barrel tile discussion from the last meeting. As per Mr. Ceballos a meeting has been scheduled with the City Attorney’s office for November 4, 2020 so an update will be provided at the next Historic Preservation Board Meeting.

 

                     The National Historic Preservation conference that was intended to be held in Miami has been changed to a virtual platform.  Anyone that was interested could sign up for specific days to listen to any of the conference dates.  The schedule of events is online at the National Trust Conference 2020.

 

                     The contractor for the renovation of the Fink Studio was approved by the City Commission at the last meeting.
