Title

Congratulations to Officer Ashley Sheran, recipient of the City of Coral Gables “Officer of the Month Award,” for the month of December 2021.

Body

I would like to nominate Officer Ashley Sheran for the "Officer of the Month" award. On Sunday, December 19, 2021, at approximately 18:35 hours, Officer Ashley Sheran responded to 1410 Blue Rd, in reference to a watch-order in her assigned zone. She initially responded during daylight hours to familiarize herself with the residence and completed a watch order at 17:35 hours. The residence was vacant, unsecured, and without power due to a house fire the previous evening, (December 18, 2021). As Officer Ashley Sheran was approaching the residence, she observed a white male standing in home's circular driveway. The male then proceeded to walk to the driveway of the house next door. The male appeared homeless with dirty tattered clothing. Officer Ashley Sheran detained the individual for further investigation. After reading the male his Miranda Warnings, he was asked where he was going, to which he responded, "Hialeah." When asked where he was coming from, he responded, "the metrorail." He advised he wasn't sure where he was going and couldn't provide an explanation as to why he was standing in the driveway of a vacant, unsecured home. The male verbally identified himself and a records check was conducted. The male had an extensive criminal past to include battery on a LEO, burglary and escape from custody. The male was unable to dispel Officer Ashley Sheran's alarm and was arrested for Loitering and Prowling.

Officer Ashley Sheran is a self-motivated Officer with a strong work ethic. She never hesitates to go above and beyond the call of duty and her stats for the month reflect this. Officer Ashley Sheran initially started working as a dispatcher and continues to assist the communications section at a moment's notice due to personnel shortages. Additionally, Officer Ashley Sheran is a member of the mounted patrol and flawlessly handles all her responsibilities. She always has a positive attitude and handles all calls with professionalism. Officer Ashley Sheran is deserving of this award.
