Title
Landscape Beautification Advisory Board Meeting of March 4, 2010
Body
TRAFFIC CIRCLES: Dan Keys reported that the Blue Road traffic circles are ready for landscaping and he has recommended Royal Poinciana trees since they are fairly large circles. He inquired as to whether there were any objections to his choice from the board and there was none.
SEGOVIA STREET UPDATE: Construction is moving along well and Dan Keys reported that there have been no changes to the landscaping recommended by the board. He did note that there will be a slight rise to the center median.
GIRALDA & RESTAURANT ROW/MIRACLE MILE UPDATE: No new activity. Barbara Katzen asked if anyone knew how the evening outside events on Friday’s were going, especially since the weather has been cold and sometimes rainy.
OLD SPANISH VILLAGE: Dan Keys reported that the City is working toward bringing some kind of resolution to the project as a whole. It was noted that the large building site just east of Ponce Circle Park was sold and the development there is moving along on its own and is no longer directly related to the rest of the Old Spanish Village, although the two projects are still tied together by the original planned area development approval.
PONCE CIRCLE PARK: No new developments.
ARBOR DAY: Dan Keys informed the board that a Landscape Beautification Advisory Board Chairperson is needed for the Arbor Day Celebration event. The Chairperson will be working with the Coral Gables Garden Club Chairperson coordinating the event. Arbor Day will be held at the Merrick House as part of the 100 year Celebration. Dan reported that a grapefruit tree would be planted since the property was at one time a grapefruit plantation and the old tree(s) were lost during the canker eradication program. It was decided that an email would be sent to all board members requesting a volunteer to serve as Chairperson for the Arbor Day Celebration. Paul Zamek stated that he would contact Joanna Lombard regarding being our Arbor Day speaker.
CITY PROJECTS UPDATE: Dan Keys reported that Phase 2 of the Ponce de Leon Blvd median project has been sent out to bid and that meetings with the neighbors will be or have been held.
Paul Zamek inquired as to what is happening with the construction on Bird Road west of LeJeune Road. Dan Keys noted that the construction is due to needed ADA improvements. Sidewalks will be installed, but it is unclear whether they will be on both sides of the street. Dan noted that curbs and gutters were not planned, but that some trees and hedges installed by homeowners will be affected by the construction.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:40 a.m.
