Title
Congratulations to Officer Jorge Brenes, recipient of the City of Coral Gables “Officer of the Month Award,” for the month of May 2026.
Body
I am respectfully requesting Officer Jorge Brenes (12613) to be nominated for Officer of the Month for May 2026.
Between April 21st- 30th a total of twenty (20) incident reports were generated within Zones 6 and 7 involving a male offender linked to a series of property crimes which included residential burglaries, vehicle burglaries, and thefts between 0100 hours and 0500 hours. Based on similarities in modus operandi, location, timeframe, and suspect description, these incidents are believed to be related and attributable to the same individual, who was later identified by detectives in a Probable Cause to Arrest BOLO (26-110).
A Burglary Task Force was activated with the operational goal of deterring, locating, and apprehending this suspect. A large-scale search was conducted at various known and possible addresses, homeless shelters, hospitals, mental health facilities, and working overnight hours with negative results.
Then on May 6, 2026, Officer Jorge Brenes was at 350 Bird Rd (7-Eleven) on riding assignment and was accompanied by his Field Training Officer Luis Lopez and Officer Alexander Rodriguez. Officer Brenes then observed a subject walk into the convenience store, and he advised the officers next to him he matched the BOLO. The officers then compared the image on the BOLO flyer and agreed it was a positive identification, and they proceeded to detain the individual for further investigation.
A search incident to arrest, revealed the offender was in possession of identification cards and credit cards belonging to other victims. He was interviewed by detectives and subsequently arrested.
