Title
Library Advisory Board Meeting of March 12, 2008
Body
LIBRARY HISTORY: Kendell Turner introduced Gendry Bossano, who was in attendance to get the board's approval on how the plaque for the Pancoast Mural will read and where it will be placed. Members approved the wording with two changes. Discussion was held regarding publicity for the plaque installation and the new mural brochure. Regarding the mural brochure, it was decided that Sylvia Mora-Oña will set up a meeting at the library with Cathy Swanson Rivenbark, Kendell Turner, Amy Kutell, Dan Keys, Victoria Galan, and herself to finalize how the brochure will look and how it will read.
Sylvia Mora-Oña reported that the Library System is working on a master plan to renovate the building including the fountains. When there is a more solid plan, it will be brought before the Library Advisory Board. Kendell Turner inquired about the brass plaque that had been stolen from the outside of the library building. Sylvia Mora-Oña felt that a new plaque could be made and both of them installed again.
PUBLICATIONS & PUBLICITY: Susan Elwell would like to bring attention to library programs and offered her help to the library staff. She noted that board members had helped to man the Miami-Dade Public Library System table at the final Coral Gables Farmer's Market last year, and would like to do it again this year. April is Library Appreciation Month. Members would like to be in attendance at the City Commission meeting when the proclamation to the Miami-Dade Public Library System is presented.
Kendell Turner reported that she met a member of the American Association of Research Librarians, who stated that her organization would be in Miami for a conference. Kendell would like to send them a note of welcome to Coral Gables from the Board and invite them to visit the Coral Gables Branch Library.
LIBRARY REPORT/ADA COMPLIANCE: Sylvia Mora-Oña noted that on April 28th, the Coral Gables branch will have a storytelling event under the stars. For National Library Month, Mayor Slesnick will be reading on April 14th, here at the library. All were encouraged to attend.
LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE/BUTTERFLY GARDEN: Dan Keys reported that City crews have worked on the landscaping. When the inter-local agreement is complete, he will inform the board further. Nancy Leslie reported that the Coral Gables Garden Club needs advice on purchasing a new butterfly sculpture. Kendell Turner asked Nancy to represent the Board in regard to the sculpture replacement.
NEW BUSINESS: Board members expressed their appreciation of Barbara Kirby's service to the Coral Gables Branch Library. Members signed a card to be sent to her through Sylvia Mora-Oña.
