Presentation of 20 year service pin to Carlos Eguiluz, Fire Department
Body
In May 1988, Iggy began a shining career as a Fire Recruit with the City. After being hired as a state certified Firefighter and EMT, he achieved his State Fire Inspector's certification in July 1990. In addition to achieving certification as a Rescue Diver and in Elevated Victim Rescue, Iggy joined the original Coral Gables Fire Department's Special Response Team in 1991. During his 17 years as a Medic, Incident Commander and Team Coordinator, Iggy feels lucky to have been a part of teams which have won Regional, National and International acclaim in the field of vehicle extrication training and advancement. After receiving his Associate's Degree in Fire Science in 1992 Iggy completed his Paramedic Certification in November 1994 and proceeded to his Associate's Degree in Emergency Medical Services in 1995 as well as being assigned Driver/Engineer in August of that year. That year he also accepted a position at Miami Dade College's Medical Campus where he has been an instructor in the Paramedic program ever since.

In June 2000 Iggy accepted the responsibilities of Staff Fire Lieutenant, Public Information/Education Officer for the Fire Department. After serving as PIO for 2 years, Iggy returned to Battalion work and was appointed to the Executive Board of the World Rescue Organization where he served for 2 years. Through his involvement as a competitor, judge and instructor of vehicle extrication training, Carlos was elected in 2005 as the Secretary of the Transportation Emergency Rescue Committee, an internationally recognized organization which he currently serves on. In November 2007, he was assigned to the position of Air Technician with the Fire Rescue Department.

Clearly Driver/Engineer Eguiluz is very productive on or off duty, and with regard to his fire department involvement goes above and beyond the call of duty. He demonstrates outstanding teamwork skills and is extremely cooperative and always willing to help around the station and during shift training. He is also extremely courteous to his peers and public and serves daily as an ambassador of goodwill for the fire service and demonstrates exemplary communication skills.  Iggy has the ability to make outstanding judgments and decisions while under pressured emergency situations.  He continues to enhance his skills and knowledge and is a real asset to the department.  Keep doing a great job.
The City congratulates and appreciates Iggy's 20 years of loyal and dedicated service and looks forward to a continued association in the years to come.
