Title
A Resolution of the City Commission of Coral Gables, Florida, amending Resolution 30314-A by adopting a revised City Policy for Naming/Renaming City Parks, Open Spaces, and Public Facilities. (Sponsored by Commissioner Keon)
Body
The City’s current naming policy was first adopted in 2002 via Resolution No. 303014-A, and has not been revised or updated since its adoption.
In recent years, the City has acquired numerous parcels of land for the purpose of creating neighborhood parks within walking distance of all neighborhoods in the City, as outlined in the Coral Gables Comprehensive Land Use Plan. The recent creation of several new parks has highlighted opportunities to improve upon the City’s current naming policy, primarily as applied to parks. This resolution revises the City’s naming policy by incorporating feedback received from the Commission during the City Commission meeting of September 8, 2020. The revised policy includes an updated naming criteria, encourages increased community input, and establishes a Nominating Committee to vet naming applications.
