Congratulations to Officer Christopher Challenger, recipient of the City of Coral Gables “Officer of the Month Award,” for the month of April, 2018.

On April 22, 2018, Officer Challenger responded to the area of Tahiti Beach in reference to a “naked male” knocking on the back door of a residence. After checking the area, he was unable to locate any suspicious person and continued to check the Gables Waterway. Shortly after that he received another call of a suspicious male attempting to steal a vessel in the Mahi Canal.
Applying his knowledge of the aquatic environment, Officer Challenger responded to the canal behind Caballero and South Dixie Highway as he knew that to be the only area of egress. He surveilled the area and discovered the subject attempting to conceal himself in the Gables Waterway Marina.
Officer Challenger was able to arrest the offender and recover two boats and a kayak that had been stolen from various locations throughout our City.
