It is a pleasure to nominate Officer J. Rios for his exceptional work and performance in the apprehension of a subject and recovery of a stolen purse on March 7th, 2018.
On March 7th, 2018, Officer Rios was responding to a theft of a purse at Ponce De Leon Boulevard and Miracle Mile. Officer J. Rios made contact with the victim and obtained all of the information regarding the incident. Officer Orbe contacted the Crime Intelligence Center (CIC) for video footage from Coral Gables security video, which has a vantage point of the scene. Ms. Mairena advised Officer J. Rios that contained within her purse was a Sprint cellular telephone. He then proceeded with the victim to the Sprint store located at 240 Alhambra Circle in an attempt to track the phone. The phone signal indicated its location was in the area of the 7000 block of Coral Way, near a BJ’s Wholesale Club. Units were dispatched to the area and an individual matching the description was observed by Officer J. Molina with the bicycle and a purse matching the BOLO.
Officer Rios demonstrated excellent police skills and quick thinking utilizing his resources in order to apprehend a subject within a short time of committing his crime.
