Title

A Resolution authorizing the acceptance and execution of a grant from the 2017 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, to purchase motorcycle saddlebag emergency lighting equipment for utilization by the Police Department; and authorizing an amendment to the Fiscal Year 2016-2017 Annual Budget to recognize the $6,129 grant funds as revenue and to appropriate such funds to cover the grant expenditures.

Body

The Coral Gables Police Department intends to use grant funds to purchase motorcycle saddlebag emergency lighting equipment for utilization by the Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit.  This lighting equipment will make officers more visible when breaching an intersection during the course of duty, thereby increasing the safety of officers out in the field and decreasing the risk of accidents.  The equipment will consist of saddlebag emergency lights specifically made for the Harley Davidson Police motorcycles used by the Traffic Enforcement Unit.

The State of Florida Department of Law Enforcement awarded the Coral Gables Police Department a 2017 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG-C) in the amount of $6,129 to purchase motorcycle saddlebag emergency lighting equipment to be used by the Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit.

An amendment to the Fiscal Year 2016-2017 Annual Budget is required to recognize the $6,129 grant funds as revenue and to appropriate such funds to cover the cost of the grant expenditures.
