On April 23, 2002 the City of Coral Gables passed a resolution authorizing an Interlocal agreement with Miami-Dade County allowing Coral Gables to provide a Transit Shuttle system within the City. The Coral Gables Trolley has operated pursuant to that Interlocal agreement since 2002 and is currently providing transportation to more than 1,000,000 passengers annually.
The original Interlocal agreement was for five (5) years with three (3) one-year extensions. This agreement has now expired. Staff has negotiated a new Interlocal agreement with Miami-Dade County for continuation of the Trolley circulator operated by the City of Coral Gables. The proposed Interlocal is for an initial term of five (5) years with two (2) optional five-year extensions.
