In 1966, the Kiwanis Club of Coral Gables created a program to honor the Coral Gables Police Officer of the Month, and the Coral Gables Police Officer of the Year. Nominations from members and employees are received by the Coral Gables Police Department Awards Selection Committee (ASC). The Committee meets on a monthly basis to discuss the nominations and select the Officer of the Month. The Officer of the Month is honored by the Kiwanis Club of Coral Gables with a plaque and a check at the Police Department's Quarterly Ceremony. The Officer of the Month also receives gift certificates from various Coral Gables businesses, and eight (8) hours of annual leave from the City of Coral Gables.
