School and Community Relations Committee Meeting of November 1, 2011

Selection of Chairperson and Vice Chairperson: Devang Desai was elected as chairperson for the SCRC. Marlin Ebbert was elected as vice chairperson for the SCRC.
Scope of the Committee: The Committee has decided to revisit the scope of the committee to include more schools. Also to reevaluate the number of meetings needed per year.
A motion to invite all schools within city limits from elementary thru high school to include the night school to the next SCRC meeting. The invitation would be sent thirty days prior to the scheduled meeting via email by Sgt. DeJong. It was also decided to request the reporting portion from the schools be communicated through email prior to the meeting to be printed out and for possible discussion during the meeting.
Minutes: Minutes from the September 13, 2011, were approved by Committee.
Coral Gables Senior High School Update: Enrollment for the school has increased since by 100 students since last year. It currently stands at 3,285 students. Class size compliance finished in October along with base line assessments. Mayor Cason attended the College Fair that took place on October 14th with 70 different colleges present. The assessment testing will be complete on November 10th. The planning for the curriculum for the 2013 school year has begun.
Ponce de Leon Middle School Update: The Open House will take place on November 9th for incoming 6th graders. Ponce has begun planning for the 2013 school year. Ponce won the Five Star award for community service in the district. Turkey Bowl is scheduled for November 23rd.
Next Meeting Dates: The SCRC will meet again in the spring of 2012 before the end of the school year.
